To Nano or not to Nano...that is the question

Believe it or not, I've NEVER, EVER Nano-ed. Or, as I should clarify, I've never successfuly Nano-ed. I've given it a whirl, twice now, and haven't shown up to write on about day three or four. And from there, once you are behind your daily 1,500 words, it feels as though you'll never catch up, so what's the point? Indeed.

Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month)has managed to make me hate myself (as a writer) for about 30 days... two years running. But still...STILL...it lingers. It's in the shadows, just outside of my vision. It hangs out in the dark corners of my house. In the backseat of my car. On those damned pop ups that bother me while I'm online. It's always THERE.

"Beat me, Harper...I bet you can't. You can't even make it a week, Harper..."

The problem is that such a gi-normous failure just about sucks the life out of you until Nanowrimo officially ends at the end of November. You don't want to work on your WIP bc you are so far behind in Nano counts, what's the point? So you can go an entire month NOT writing or working on your WIP out of guilt and shame.

But still. I made the choice on the ride in this morning to give Nanowrimo a go. And since I'm just finishing the edits for my SRS partial (that goes out this week to Silhouette!), I won't have any real, pending work that needs to get muscled through...why not?

And why not tinker in the sub-genre I'm most interested in, but have yet to attack? PIRATES! Oh yes, ladies and gentlemen, Harper wants her very own Pirate Novel under her belt.!

So as the plan sits today, I have the next two weeks to work out the research and the plot basics that I want to work on....and November shall henceforth be known as Pirate Month around my neighborhood.

Updates to come...
