So now, here in October, we're starting the fourth month of waiting right?
I was told to give it five months before contacting. I think I might have cobwebs growing off of me if I wait that long.
In other HB writing news, I submitted a "pitch" for a romantic suspense manuscript I've been sitting on for a few months. I love the folks at E-Harlequin and how hands-on their editors and lines get with the aspiring authors. If the pitch is succesful (meaning, the line editor chooses my blurb) I get to officially pitch the story to her in a chat session. Great way to reach some writers quick, fast and in a hurry. We should hear this week who gets the pitch sessions.
I entered the I Heart Presents competition last week also. Aimed at Modern Heat. I know, how many damn manuscripts do I have? But let's face it...I've been reading romances since middle school and have been out of my MFA program for almost six years now. I've got a couple hiding in the computer at home! I was wary of Harlequin at first. I'd never read many of their books back in the day and I thought there was a negative stereotype attached to them for some idiotic reason. I could not have been any more misinformed. True, I'm sure their payrates aren't SKYROCKETING in today's economy, but their fan and readership base is steady and growing and you couldn't ask for more from a publisher. Except maybe for a publisher who actively engages with its inspiring writers. Oh, wait. Wish granted. :)
Anyway, just an update on my status. I'm a FIRM believer in you'll never get good news back if you don't get yourself engaged in the process. So true, so true.
